Glendon Guest House

The four-poster room with views over Knowleston

Bed & Breakfast with 6 rooms £0-£125 prpnb

7 Knowleston Place,

7 Knowleston Place,

Glendon sits in a terrace in Matlock, formerly a spa town, on the edge of the Derbyshire Dales. Its façade in a small, quiet terrace is attractive and faces gardens designed by Joseph Paxton. The Victorian town-house is entered via the hall and the 6 bedrooms are on the first floor. The guest sitting room on the first floor faces the gardens and has books and magazines to browse – there is even a ‘book-swap’ facility. The town is well placed for visiting the Peak District, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and other historic houses. It is ideal for walkers exploring Edale, Youlgreave, the Monsal Trail, for visitors to historic mills like Arkwrights, or families going to see Gullivers Kingdom and the Heights of Abraham. Matlock has good specialised clothes shops.
The four poster and family rooms are spacious; others are cosy. Each room is individually designed and include a silent mini-fridge, ironing facilities and en-suite shower (the premiere/family room has a bath and shower over). They are furnished in a contemporary style to provide welcoming surroundings.

The mirrored breakfast room on the ground floor overlooks the front garden and is bright and airy, with separate tables. The breakfasts, prepared by chef/patron Adrian, are legendary, with wide choice, including smoked salmon, fruits, yoghurts, different breads and a vegetarian option.
There are a range of eating options within easy walking distance of Glendon; from fine dining to European/Asian to pubs. This includes the Stones Restaurant and Bar 2010 – a trendy licensed café open until 1930. For those with an interest in antiques/vintage the shops on Dale Road are not to be missed.

Take junction 28 of the M1 (the Alfreton exit). Turn off for the A615 to Matlock, follow this road. As you descend the hill into Matlock (Signposted) pass a Total Garage on your left, continue forward past a Gallery on your left and the entrance to Glendon is signed on the left.

From the A6 follow signs to Matlock town centre, at the roundabout (Crown Square) go straight ahead, passing Boots which is on your left. Go straight over the mini roundabout with the park on your right. At the end of the park there is a right hand turn into Knowleston Place - go past this turn and the entrance to Glendon is signed.

If you are using public transport Glendon is approximately 500 yards from the train and bus station. There are regular train connections to Derby and Nottingham. The good transport links make much of the local area easy to explore without the need to use a car.
