Details

More than just a hotel is their byline. And it certainly is. The Petwood started life in the early 19th century when springs were discovered below it, giving the Spa to Woodhall and heralding the arrival of many Victorian visitors. Grace Weigall opened the house as an hotel in 1933 and it features in the 1937 edition of Signpost (founded by your inspector’s grandfather) when rates were 18/6 to 23 shillings a day! Over the year's kings and queens, opera singers and actors have stayed. In 1942 the hotel became the headquarters of RAF squadron 617 The Dambusters and the Squadron Bar today hosts a range of memorabilia and tributes to Guy Gibson VC, Leonard Cheshire VC and their officers. The hotel luxuriates in 30 acres of landscaped gardens, originally designed by Harold Peto. Its low rise gabled layout offers a wonderful setting for a wedding or reunion, as well as for a relaxing mini-break.

Dining is either in the elegant Dining Room or less formally in the Terrace Bar, where children are also welcomed, with a special menu available and which overlooks the gardens. Afternoon teas are also popular. The hotel uses local suppliers where possible – fish from Grimsby, meats including Lincolnshire sausages and cheeses including Lincolnshire Poacher from right on the doorstep.

The hotel’s 53 bedrooms range from singles to the Weigall Suite (popular with brides). There are three four-posters and nine superior executive rooms. These come with LCD flat screen TVs and iPod docking stations, as well as bathrobes & slippers and upgraded Penhaligon toiletries. Petwood Beauty Studio Therapist has a treatment room onsite offering varied beauty & wellbeing treatments.

The city of Lincoln and the Lincolnshire Wolds are both just 30 minutes away. There is a championship golf course in the town; also, Victorian Pump Room from Spa days. Tattershall Castle and RAF Coningsby nearby. The Viking Way passes through the town.
