Listed as one of the oldest coaching inns in England, the Golden Fleece Hotel overlooks the cobbled market square in the centre of Thirsk. At the peak of the coaching era the hotel kept up to sixty horses to work the seven coaches which passed through Thirsk everyday. Today the former mews buildings to the rear of the hotel have been converted into guest rooms and the gracious main building retains much of its original character and tradtiional charm. The hotel was favourite haunt of James Herriot whose veterinary practice was situated across the market square. Thirsk is ideally situated between the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors and stunning Yorkshire Dales National Parks. The hotel has a range of ensuite bedrooms individually designed to make guests feel completely at home. The menus offer plenty of choice with a focus on locally sourced ingredients, Yorkshire cask ales are served in the Paddock Bar and a good selection of wines are available. The hotel has three conference rooms which can accommodate from 10 - 80 people.
