Located in the centre of Thirsk, the Golden Fleece has been serving weary travellers for nearly 400 years and is listed as one of the oldest Coaching Inns of England. 1823 directories show that seven coaches per day called at The Fleece. In the heyday of the road, the hotel kept fifty or sixty horses in its stables to work the coaches alone. Set in the heart of Herriot country, James Herriot often visited the hotel bar. The Golden Fleece lies between two National Parks and two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is ideally placed for exploring the Yorkshire Moors and Dales. Whilst proudly displaying its heritage, the hotel boasts a range of bedrooms equipped with all modern amenities to make today's traveller feel completely at home.
