The Royal Hotel dates from 1830 and its grand, imposing architecture, including its famous staircase and atrium, bears all the hallmarks of the Regency period. Scarborough was one of the UK’s first holiday resorts and the Royal was built at the height of the town’s growth. The hotel has moved with the times and been refurbished to meet the kind of facilities and standard of service that today’s guests expect. The hotel has attracted many distinguished guests including Winston Churchill, Charles Laughton and Alan Ayckbourn, all of whom have had suites named after them. More recent guests include Gwyneth Paltrow, Robbie Coltrane and the Sheffield United football Club, to name a few. Dining options include the Sea View restaurant, the Theatre Bar or the more contemporary Café Bliss, with outside tables for a warm summer’s day. The hotel has a Leisure Club, indoor pool and conference facilities for up to 350.
