Approached by a mile-long drive through a 300-acre estate of wooded parkland along the Yealm estuary, Kitley House is an oasis of quiet luxury providing a relaxing alternative to urban Plymouth. The Grade 1 Listed country house is one of the earliest Tudor Revival houses in England, and has now been restored to its former glory. The principal rooms have high moulded ceilings and elegant sash windows. From the book-lined Terrace Restaurant, diners can watch the soft progress of the lake. There is fishing in the hotel’s private lake and other watersports nearby. Kitley is an excellent base from which to explore Dartmoor, the Southwest Coastal Path, Wembury Church and Bay and Burgh Island.
