Cornwall Attractions - The Minack Theatre, PorthcurnoMinack in Cornish means a rocky place and the black headed crag below the Minack Theatre has always drawn local fishermen. Until the 1930s they had the gorse filled gully to themselves and the cliffs echoed to the cries of seagulls rather than actors. Rowena Cade and her mother moved to Cornwall in the 1920s and Rowena bought the Minack headland for £100. The first performance of The Tempest in the present rocky amphitheatre was staged in 1932, lit by car batteries, car headlights and feeble power brought down from Minack House.
