Eden Project

Eden Project, CornwallThe Eden Project is one of Cornwall's top attractions.  It opened in 2001, two construction companies having given their services free of charge to complete the project. Co-founders were Tim Smit and Cornishman Jonathan Ball, who has now passed the baton to Sir Nicholas Grimshaw. The project consists of two huge biodomes , one tropical and one temperate. Here visitors can experience vegetation from all over the world.

Seven million have passed through Eden’s doors in six years and they have just opened The Core, a new education centre.

Eden plays host to numerous large outdoor events such as Live 8 Africa Calling and the Eden Sessions (outdoor gigs featuring local groups and individual performers). There are also themed presentations such as Bulb Mania in the Spring, A Time of Gifts in the Winter and Jungle Nights in the Summer.

More than just a green theme park, The Eden Project is about connecting plants, people and places. It is a living demonstration of regeneration and aims to reconnect people with their environment, locally and globally.

As a popular attraction in Cornwall, Eden has brought business to hotels, b&bs and guest house within a wide radius. Motorists are advised to allow plenty of time for arrival, particularly in the summer, as the roads leading to the Project can get clogged. There is an excellent shop and a rack-and-pinion railway can take visitors down to the Domes.
