The West Arms has welcomed travellers from near and far for more than 400 years. It is full of character with slate-flagged floors, large inglenook fireplaces, timberwork, sloping landings and crooked staircases. Cattle drivers from three Welsh valleys used to converge here to take their produce to markets as far afield as London. Today the traffic is the other way around – people flock to the West Arms from all over the world for a spot of superb Welsh hospitality, good food and home spun comfort. Nearby are Rhaedr Waterfall and Chirck Castle. Or you could fish on the hotel’s private 2-mile stretch of the Ceiriog or go pony trekking. This year a four-poster room has been introduced, new TVs and radios and a selection of books in rooms have been added. Mountain bikes can also now be hired. The Ceiriog Valley is one of the loveliest and most peaceful in Wales.
