This 15th century inn, surrounded by some of the best countryside in mid-Wales, is a gateway to the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains. On the Hereford-Brecon road, you cannot miss the old stone building and the hanging baskets and tubs of bright red geraniums in season as you pass through the hamlet of Three Cocks. The inn was taken over in 2006 by the enthusiastic Roy and Judith Duke, whose warm hospitality continues the Inn’s tradition of welcoming travellers from far and near. You can have a snack or a drink alfresco in the garden at the rear of the inn, before dining in the spacious, yet unpretentious restaurant. There is a pleasant bar area, an open grate fire, and a splendid panelled drawing room, with a wide-screen TV if desired, books, board games and videos, and a roaring log fire in winter. As you retire to your simple, clean and TV-free bedroom, you can expect beams and sloping floors, following the contours of the old inn.
