High above the Vale of Conwy and overlooking Snowdonia sits the majestic and elegant Plas Maenan. It was built 100 years ago by the Aluminium Corporation and occupied by its managing director, Henry Jack, leading to its pseudonym of Plas Jack. Then it was the centre for entertaining in the valley and it reprises this role today, being particularly popular for weddings.
Inside it has the ambience of a welcoming country house, with a comfortable drawing room with log fire and panoramic views. At the front of the building are four spacious suites, with kitchen and dining areas, video and DVD player, a good selection of novels and games, and a wide range of toiletries in the large bathrooms.
The ‘Small Dining Room’ serves an a la carte menu Tuesdays through Sunday lunchtime, using locally sourced produce wherever possible, including Welsh lamb and beef, crab and mackerel, and game in season. The separate Music Room can be rented for that special private occasion.
