Set in nearly 200 acres of meadows, park and woodland deep in the heart of the lovely Vale of Clwyd, Pentre Mawr House is secluded yet very accessible. Until recently converted and modernised this charming country hotel had been a private house, which is still owned and run by the same family that has lived here for 400 years. There are two comfortable sitting rooms, traditionally furnished and displaying family portraits and other memorabilia. Breakfast is served in the morning room, dinner at a set price of £32.50 for five courses, in the formal dining room but in informal style. The ten en suite bedrooms, some with four-posters, are all beautifully decorated, offering great comfort and wonderful views across the garden. Each bedroom is named from T S Elliot's Old Possum's Book of Cats and has an Honesty Bar.
Pentre Mawr is the first place in the UK to take 'camping' to a luxurious level, the new luxury Canvas Lodges (open April to October) have full bathrooms with underfloor heating, freestanding baths and showers, king size leather beds and a fully heated sitting area, all with an African feel. Each has a private terrace and it's own hot tub.
In addition to wonderful walks from the door (do bring any canine family members) there is a hidden walled garden, a fine place to sit and read or just relax in peace. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool beyond the Georgian terrace where breakfast can sometimes be served, also private fishing facilities are available on the property.
