Owners Jan & Peter Clarke, with their two young director-managers Alex Brown and Tim Strong, have been applying a ‘hands-on’ approach to guests for over 36 years. Only five minutes’ walk from the pleasant market town of Usk, Glen Yr Afon is an excellent base from which to explore South Wales. It is an imposing Victorian house retaining many original features yet sympathetically updated. 27 elegant and fully fitted bedrooms enjoy wonderfully large baths, whilst, for the business visitor, the whole hotel is now a broadband ‘hotspot’. The air-conditioned Clarkes restaurant offers a range of new menu choices, complimented by an extensive wine list. Conferences and wedding parties are catered for with a function suite seating 140, while the charming library is available for smaller parties. A chauffeur-driven Mercedes Vito, seating 8, is available for a small charge.
