The Griffin is a 7-bedroom hostelry of contemporary comfort – crisp Irish linen, goosedown pillows, some Rajasthani beds and furniture, stripped pine floorboards, spacious baths to wallow in after a day in the hills, but no TVs in rooms. The Griffin's kitchen produce miracles specialising in local produce – Welsh lamb, beef from the neighbouring farm and puddings to die for, all with an international twist. Breakfast is taken communally; guests make their own toast on the Aga. It is all very informal, like a country house. This atmosphere spreads to the bar area where local ales can be sampled in front of a roaring log fire or liqueur sipped. There are great walks on Llandefalle Hill in the Beacons behind the inn and Offa’s Dyke, Kilvert Country and fishing on the Usk and Wye are all nearby.

20/07/2007 (4 night stay): A fantastic place to stay, an excellent welcome and good food/wine.Would perhaps recommend that a check is kept on the pricing of the food, as this was a little high (although excellent quality). We will definitely return as soon as possible.

06/02/2009 (4 night stay): A boutique/pub type hotel with a bohemian feel. Comfortable bar/restaurant and public areas with warm fires and an Aga in the breakfast room. Good beers on tap. The room was OK with TV supplied on request. Staff were very homely and attentive. Food was OK if a bit pricey.
