Roman Baths and Pump Room, Bath
Along with Hadrian’s wall, this is one of the greatest bequests the Romans have left us. The centrepiece is an open-air bath, 70 x 30 ft and 5 ft deep, still fed via the Roman plumbing from the hot spring under the city. Neighbouring museum displays archaeological findings. Next to the Great Bath is the Kings Bath, allegedly used by medieval monarchs. The Pump Room dates from 1796, contains a fountain dispensing Bath water, and is a good place for Bath buns and coffee, taken to the accompaniment of a classical music trio.
