Powderham Castle

Lying in a tranquil deer park, Powderham is the home of the Earl of Devon. It was built in 1390 by Sir Philip Courtenay. Major embellishments were made in the 17th century, after some Civil War damage and in the 18th the Grand Staircase and Wyatt’s fine Music Room. The castle remains a family home and there are entertaining guided tours of the state rooms. The gardens and grounds are largely informal with walks and paths ranging from the springtime Woodland Garden to the old Victorian walled garden, which includes the Childrens Secret Garden.
The Country Store contains a food hall, plant stall, restaurant and the House of Marbles. There is also a miniature railway in the grounds. Powderham has a full Events Programme throughout the year and is popular for film shoots, private functions and corporate events.
