Kensington Palace
The palace was bought in 1689 by William III who engaged Wren and Hawksmoor to enlarge it. Queen Victoria spent her childhood here, and her presence lives on in her bedroom. Outside the Orangery was added by Queen Anne in 1704 and the gardens were enlarged in 1740 by George II’s wife, Caroline. Display of dresses, including those worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, whose home this was. In 2009 there is a special exhibition entitled The Debutante, with dresses of the last debs on display.
