Greenwich Royal Observatory

The Observatory is the site of the Meridian Line ( 0 degrees) from which Greenwich Mean Time is calculated. The museum chronicles Britain’s history as a maritime power from Tudor times to the 19th century. It includes Nelson’s bloodstained uniform from Trafalgar, navigational instruments and charts. Portraits and seascapes by Turner, Hogarth and Reynolds adorn the walls. The Queens House, designed by Inigo Jones in 1635 for King James I’s wife, Anne, is significant for having introduced the Palladian style to England. It has the famous ‘tulip’ staircase.World Heritage Site.
