Dover Castle
The White Cliffs Experience, in the heart of the forbidding castle fortress, is a fascinating tour through secret World War II tunnels, past a reconstructed Operating Theatre and the communications centre for the Dunkirk evacuation and Operation Dynamo. In the grounds, explorable by train, are also the Roman Lighthouse, Anglo-Saxon church and 13th century underground fortifications. The Great Tower has been rebuilt as it was in 1180 and there are fun events and pageants during the summer.
Open 1 Apr-30 Sept 1-6; Oct –5; Nov-31 Mar til 4pm. Admission: adult £13.60/child £6.80; concessions £11.60.
