Christ Church
The college was founded in 1525 by Cardinal Wolsey and has Oxford’s largest quadrangle and medieval hall. The chapel, formerly a 12th century Norman church, then an Augustinian monastery, achieved cathedral status in Henry VIII’s reign and is the seat of Oxford diocese and the smallest cathedral in England. The Christ Church Picture Gallery is the most impressive in Oxford, specialising in 14th-17th century Italian work as well as drawings by Michelangelo, Titian and Rubens and portraits in the college dining hall by Reynolds, Gainsborough, Lely and others.
Cathedral open Mon-Sat 9-5; Sun 1-5. Areas of college closed at certain times. Pse phone to check times. Admission adult £4.90/child free/concessions £3.90.
