Lincoln Cathedral
One of the finest medieval buildings in Europe, Lincoln Cathedral towers above the city and is visible for miles around. The first Romanesque cathedral dates from 1072. Most of it was built in 13th century in the Gothic style. Later generations added the carved screen, the Wren Library, the 14th century misericords and the Duncan Grant frescoes. One of the extant copies of the Magna Carta is housed here, as well as the Lincoln Chapter Bible and a 15th century schoolbook.
Open June-Aug daily 0715-2000; winter 0715-1800. Closed Sunday evenings. Admission adult £4/child £2/conc £3.40/family £10.
