Kentwell Hall
One of two stately homes in Long Melford, the delightful mellow Tudor moated Kentwell Hall is still privately owned. The interiors were refurbished by Thomas Hopper in the 1820s but improvements continue to this day. Much used for film sets and also for educational visits, Kentwell’s gardens are a triumph in all seasons: spring bulbs, a sunken walled garden, topiary telling the story of the Pied Piper, mature trees. There is a summer season of plays, operas and concerts.
Open Easter-Sept Sun-Wed + daily at half term; Oct Suns + halfterm. Admission: adult £7.50/child £4.75/seniors £6.50.
