The Roman Camp Country House & Restaurant, dating from 1625, was originally a hunting lodge for the Earls of Moray. It was remodelled and extended during the early 20th century becoming a hotel in the 1930's. The house lies in 20 acres of gardens by the river Teith, including a large walled flower & herb garden and rolling lawns. Callander is in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, in Rob Roy country, yet conveniently situated for Stirling and just over an hour from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Public rooms are very comfortable, with deep sofas and armchairs, roaring fires in winter and fresh flowers. In the heart of the house is the library with its rich oak panelling and adjoining secret chapel. The hotel offers a range of standard, superior rooms and suites with several ground floor rooms are available. Bedrooms are individually furnished with rich fabrics and many with antiques.
The restaurant is an inspiring oval room of elegant proportions, with soft modern classical décor. The hotel has retained 3 AA rosettes for many years now, and offers a 4 course table d’hôte dinner, or an à la carte menu. Lunches, afternoon teas and light snacks are all available.
