The Talbot Hotel, in the centre of the fine market town of Oundle, dates from Elizabethan times. The oak staircase was brought from nearby Fotheringay Castle, down which it is said that Mary, Queen of Scots descended on the way to her execution in 1587. The Bulldog Hotel Group has recently completed a major restoration and refurbishment project and one of the highlights is the new open plan Sun Room which extends into the old courtyard and is a great place to enjoy lunch or afternoon tea. Cuisine is traditional British, all freshly prepared and making use of local produce where possible, and has recently been awarded one AA Rosette. After dinner, relax in the main bar with open fireplaces. The 34 bedrooms are made up of standard, feature rooms and suites, some with four-posters and separate sitting areas. All are super comfortable with Beltrami linen, White Company toiletries and free internet access. The company's Greensleep initiative means that, for every hotel room sold, a tree is planted, so you can sleep soundly in the knowledge that you are helping the environment! The hotel is fully licensed for weddings and is equipped with the latest in conference facilities.
