The Steam Packet Inn nestles on the quayside in the picture postcard harbour village of the Isle of Whithorn, on the southernmost tip of the Machars peninsula. The Steam Packet provided transport to Liverpool and from there to the rest of the world. The harbour is now the focal point for local fishermen and leisure craft - a relaxed and friendly place.
The Isle is a perfect base for exploring this unspoilt corner of Scotland. Numerous excellent golf courses are within an easy drive. Fishing is widely available on local lochs and rivers, or on the sea from shore or boat. Walking and cycling on the quiet roads and paths amongst stunning scenery is enjoyable and sailing and diving are popular pastimes from the sheltered harbour. There are numerous historical sites in the area and you should visit Wigton Booktown.
The Steam Packet is a welcoming inn personally run by the Scoular family. It has a reputation for fine simple food with an emphasis on the freshest Scottish produce, particularly seafood that is often bought straight from boats landing in front of the hotel. It is the perfect venue for an active outdoor holiday in this quiet and beautiful part of the world.
