Tall astricalled windows, more reminiscent of a Georgian country house, allow light to flood into the handsome rooms and guests to lose themselves in the haunting views from this hotel. Bedrooms are decorated with singular style and strong colours, which, along with the eccentric collection of oriental antiques and paintings, make this hotel a delight to visit. Fresh water comes in old-fashioned ‘pop’ bottles, straight from the hills. We strolled through the estate’s exotic 100-acre gardens, restored walled garden and down to the loch with its mystical outlook over wooded islands to the mountains beyond. The quality of light and constant colour changes in this corner of the Highlands are always dramatic.
