Golf in the Channel Islands
Guernsey has the Royal Guernsey Golf Club at Vale and the 9-hole St Pierre Park in St Peter Port. La Grande Mare Hotel has its own 18-hole course with driving range, golf shop and tuition available. Royal Jersey Golf Club, east of St Helier, is handy for the Club Hotel & Spa .  Other Jersey courses are La Moye and  Les Mielles at St Ouens in the West of the island. There is a 9-hole course on Alderney, near the Braye beach Hotel.

Golf in Wales
Royal Porthcawl, ranked world 86th by Golf World, Royal St Davids Harlech and now Celtic Manor are perhaps the best known courses in Wales. Near Cardiff Miskin Manor is convenient for the 12-hole Llantrisant and Pontyclun Golf Courses. Celtic Manor was the site of the Ryder Cup 28 Sept-2nd October 2010. Glen Yr Afon in Usk is nearby and also has the scenic Monmouthshire Golf Club nearby at Abergavenny. In Powys the Lake Country House has its own 9-hole course with Builth Wells Golf Club nearby. Crickhowell and Brecon both have 9-hole courses, near Gliffaes, Felin Fach Griffin and Peterstone Court Hotels.

Golf in the West Country
In Gloucestershire Burleigh Court guests can try their hand at one of the Minchinhampton courses – the Old or the New. Nearby Westonbirt Golf Course at the Girls’ school near Tetbury is 9-hole. Cheltenham has the Cleeve Cloud, Lilley Brook and Cotswold Hills clubs. Guests at Charingworth Manor can play at the Broadway Golf Club at Willersey Hill. Cirencester Golf Course is the nearest to Bibury Court.

Golf in London & the South-East
The Old Course, Sunningdale in Surrey is rated 24th in the world by Golf World. The Wentworth in Virginia Water hosted the BMW POGA Championships 2023 in May 2010. The Pride of the Valley hotel is near to both these courses. Walton Heath course at Tamworth is rated 85th in the world. Kent has a golf course for most towns, the Littlestone at New Romney having a 9 & 18 hole course, handy for Romney Bay House . The parkland Tenterden golf course is near Little Silver Hotel whereas the championship Royal Cinque Ports at Deal and the Royal St Georges at Sandwich (rated 27th in the world) are handy for guests at our Dover hotels and The White Cliffs Hotel & Trading Company.

Golf in the East of England
The East of England’s courses are newer than those in some areas, with particularly fine links courses around the coast. Heacham Manor in Norfolk its own course with Hunstanton nearby. Further East comes Brancaster (Royal West Norfolk), then Sheringham and the two Cromer courses – The Links and Royal Cromer Golf Club. Norwich has four courses, including Barnham Broom, which also has a hotel. Broom Hall is handy for the wooded heathland Thetford Golf Course. Norfolk Mead Hotel is near the parkland Wensum Valley course.

Golf in the Midlands
This is a big area with a wide variety of courses. Starting in Lincolnshire in the North-East of the area, Woodhall Spa Golf Club is rated  45th in the world by Golf World and is quite near Washingborough Hall. Near Stamford in the south, and handy for our Rutland hotels, are the flat parkland Burghley Park Golf Club, and, in a conservation area, Luffenham Heath.

Nottingham has five golf courses and another at Radcliffe-on-Trent. Perhaps the most popular is the 18-hole parkland Ruddington Grange, convenient for Langar Hall.  Newark is another fine course to the Northeast.

Golf in Cumbria & the North West
In Lancashire the Royal Birkdale, near Southport regularly features as an Open Championship venue and was dubbed by Golf World 15th best course in the world. This and the Royal Lytham St Annes, cited 53rd in the world, as well as the four other Southport courses and the three other Lytham ones make this corner of England popular with golfers. The Chadwick Hotel at Lytham caters for these enthusiasts. East of the M6 Blackburn boasts six courses, of which the best known is the parkland  Blackburn Golf Club, which looks over to the Lancashire coast one way and towards the Pennines in the other direction. The Royal Liverpool Golf Club, on the Wirral peninsula is rated 68th in the world by Golf World and is also a championship course.

Golf in Yorkshire & the North-East
Ganton Golf Club, near Scarborough, ranks 71st in Golf World’s World top 100 courses and was the venue for the British Ladies Amateur Championship in 2010.  Other courses in the area are Scarborough North Cliff and Scarborough South Cliff.

Crown Spa Hotel and Ox Pasture Hall are well placed for playing these courses. Other North Yorkshire clubs include three in Harrogate and the undulating parkland Kirkbymoorside Golf Club, near Lastingham Grange. Also the 9-hole Settle Golf Club and the 18-hole high fell Skipton Golf Club, near Coniston.

Golf in Scotland
Scotland, the home of golf, boasts no less than nine courses in the Golf World Top 100 Worldwide List. These are Turnberry (6th), Muirfield (8th) where the British Amateur Championships took place 14-19 June 2010, Royal Dornoch (16th), Kingsbarns, St Andrews (18th), where, with Carnoustie, the Alfred Dunhill World Championships were held in 2010.
