Built in the 1920s for the American Actress Hedda Hopper and designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the architect of Portmeirion (see Wales section). It is situated along a private road on a totally unspoiled stretch of coastline with spectacular views. The drawing room overlooks the terrace with the sea beyond and the first floor look out room has a library, board games and a telescope! In the grounds is a croquet lawn with two golf courses immediately behind the hotel. The popular restaurant serves a four course dinner using the freshest local produce, complemented by an excellent wine list. Cream teas are also a speciality, served on the terrace or in the dining room. The natural wildness of Romney Marsh and the proximity of the rolling Kent countryside and the historic Cinque Ports make this an ideal spot for a few days relaxation.
> Rooms: 10 non smoking bedrooms (including 2 suites)
> Facilities nearby include golf
> Romney Bay House Hotel is open all year except 1 week over Christmas |
