A human size frog beckons you into his manor off the A534 Wrexham - Nantwich road in South West Cheshire. There are several hundred other tailless amphibians made of straw, ceramic, wood and brass throughout the property. The interior is opulent with antique Georgian and Victorian furniture and plush fabrics. Accommodation consists of five bedrooms and three suites, the latest of which, The Lady Guinevere, is in a tree in the garden with the emergency exit being a rope ladder! The menu, specialising in local fish, meat and game is priced in guineas. Background music is from the 30s and 40s. After dinner you can dance to 60s music on the discreet dance floor off the drawing room. The whole ambience is Idiosyncratic but refreshing. It is like being in a private house, romantic and private – an Englishman’s home offering a comfortable retreat from the pressures of modern life.

02/09/2010 (1 night stay): I entertained some friends at Frogg Manor, formerly Barn Hill House, using the voucher that I bid for at an auction. John Sykes looked after us all very well and we had a fantastic lunch after going on a conducted tour of the hotel, which was so interesting and impressive.
