Originally a private residence situated on the edge of the historic hamlet of Grange, Borrowdale Gates maintains the lovely homely atmosphere of a genuine country house, where the cares of the world just ebb away. Location is sublime. Set in two acres of wooded gardens, with a back drop of high, rising fells, close to the shores of Derwentwater, the hotel offers seclusion without remoteness. Its aspect is perfect, providing panoramic views of the dramatic Lakeland scenery. AA cuisine, an outstanding wine list and personal service result in a very memorable guest experience. Most bedrooms have views of either the Borrowdale Valley or of the Fells. Guests can also relax in the gardens with views of the impressive Castle Crag, Jaws of Borrowdale and with majestic Lake District scenery all around.

15/06/2009 (4 night stay): A stunning setting for a comfortable and welcoming hotel with the personal touch. Our room opened out onto the garden with open fields and stunning views beyond. The view from the restaurant of Castle Crag was particularly stunning with additional entertainment provided by the many and varied birds attracted to the bird feeders in the foregound. The food lived up to the setting adding up to a very enjoyable stay.
