Coming South down the Great Glen from Inverness and Fort Augustus on the A82 we come to the refurbished Invergarry Hotel and down the old Road to the Isles, one of the most isolated Hotels in the Highlands, Tomdoun Sporting Lodge.
Driving northwest we come to Loch Torridon, some of the most striking scenery in the Highlands. Torridon House has recently opened Torridon Lodge, for families and those on a smaller budget. Nearby is one of the most idyllically set Hotels in the Highlands, Tigh an Eilean at Shieldaig. Back on the A82 we come to one of the Hotels in the Highlands with the best views: Corriegour Lodge overlooking Loch Lochy. The only place to stay in Fort William is the 9-bedroom Lime Tree Hotel with permanent art gallery attached.
Those with a bigger budget might stay in one of the most iconic Hotels in the Highlands – Inverlochy Castle, a striking castellated house in spacious grounds with loch and mountain views. Taking the Keppanach-Corran ferry to Ardnamurchan, the A861 takes us to the one of the most beautifully positioned Hotels in the Highlands, Kilcamb Lodge at Strontian, overlooking Loch Sunart.
The Island of Skye has some of the best known Hotels in the Highlands. Flodigarry Country House Hotel (closed Nov-Feb) in the north-east near Staffin, has Flora Macdonald’s cottage in the grounds. Greshornish (closed Dec-Feb) is up a single 
track road overlooking Loch Snizort. Viewfield House in Portree is open April-October. Kinloch Lodge at Sleat is one of the most gastronomic Hotels in the Highlands, with the kitchen under the watchful eye of chef/proprietor (Lady) Clare Macdonald.
