South Suffolk
This area stretches from Orford on the coast and Monks Eleigh (inland) southwards and includes Ipswich. It again has some of the largest and best Hotels in Suffolk. The Crown & Castle at Orford, which has a famous castle keep dating back to the times of King Henry II, is owned by Ruth Watson,
of Hotel Inspector fame.
Working westwards we come to one of the most peaceful Hotels in Suffolk, The Old Rectory in Campsea Ash. At Woodbridge is the recently re-opened Crown Hotel with smart bedrooms and imaginative cuisine. Near Woodbridge is one of the finest Golfing Hotels in Suffolk, Ufford Park, modern and also set up for weddings and conferences.
County town Ipswich boasts several of the biggest Hotels in Suffolk: the Salthouse Harbour on the marina is ultra modern with 68 rooms. Seckford Hall on the eastern ring road A12 has a fine spa and Elizabethan origins. Milsom’s Kesgrave Hall is nearby, sits in its own parkland and is sister hotel to the Milsom properties in Essex.
West of the County Town is Hintlesham Hall, formerly owned by Robert Carrier and another leading golfing Hotel in Suffolk. The Bildeston Crown has won many awards for its cuisine and has sumptuous rooms.
On the Essex border The Black Lion, Long Melford is next to stately homes Kentwell Hall and Long Melford Hall.
Also nearby is the 11-bedroom Crown Inn, Stoke-by-Nayland, recently converted and expanded with smart bedrooms in a separate block to the dining areas.
