The Isle of Bute has much to offer visitors, including Rothesay Castle which stands in the centre of Bute, dominating the Island. For music lovers the Jazz Festival takes place during the first weekend in May, and in late July it hosts a popular Folk Festival. The traditional Highland Games take place during the last week in August.
Bute is separated from the Cowal Peninsula by the Kyles of Bute, some of the most breathtaking waters in the Scottish Isles, and providing superb sailing.
The Cowal Peninsula is the most visited part of Argyll, and Dunoon is the region's capital. Places to visit include the Cowal Bird Garden, the Ardnadam Heritage Trail, and of course the Dunoon Ceramics Visitor Centre, which provides tours around the factory.
