How we select hotels
Our inspectors look for hotels with a distinctive ambience - places that they have enjoyed staying at themselves. That's why you will not find any run-of-the mill hotels in this guide, or hotels which are just part of a large national chain.
Our standards
Our inspectors set the highest standards and expect every hotel to live up to them. We demand fine cuisine, using the best fresh produce. Bedrooms should be furnished with style and have all the comforts you need away from home. The hotel should be located in an interesting area, with plenty of opportunity for sport and leisure. Above all hotels should be welcoming, places you want to return to again and again.
