The White Hart Royal Hotel
The White Hart Royal stands in the centre of this busy Cotswold market town. It was built as a coaching inn in the 17th century and was 'put on the map' by King Charles I who stayed there on the eve of the battle of Marston Moor nearby and whose stay is commemorated by a copy of his unpaid bill in the hall!
In 2009 the new owners refurbished the property, and whilst maintaining its period features, modernised the rooms to be some of the best in the area. They are divided into single, twins, doubles, 'Feature' bedrooms like the King Charles Suite, Garden Rooms and Four-Poster Rooms.
The Le Noir Room even has a bathtub big enough for two people. The popular restaurant serves good value meals, which might start with a Devonshire Crab and Avocado Tian, be followed by a fillet of locally reared beef or pork belly and conclude with an Eton Mess or Sticky Toffee Pudding with butterscotch sauce and ice-cream.
Moreton-in-Marsh is blessed with good shops, a famous market, the Batsford Arboretum, with Hidcote, Kiftsgate and Snowshill Manor Gardens nearby. The rolling hills and valleys of the North Cotswolds are on the doorstep.
