The George Hotel
The George has been welcoming travellers for over 500 years, first as an alehouse, and, since 1770, as an inn. It is ideally placed in the centre of the Peak District, near to Chatsworth and the Ladybower Reservoir, yet only 12 miles from Sheffield.
After a thorough refurbishment in 1997, bedrooms have great character, with all modern facilities. Some are split level and some have four-posters.
Bathrooms have power showers and large fluffy bath towels. Public rooms have fresh flowers and the award-winning restaurant, under the supervision of master chef Ben Handley, has an ever changing menu, there is a boardroom for meetings or private dining and a Banquet Suite for functions and wedding receptions.

Hotel reviews
December 2011 : Excellent base for the Peak District’. We stayed only one night at The George but wished we had stayed longer. It’s a lovely building and the room, we took a superior one, was spacious and really comfortable and warm, despite the snow and ice outside. The service is first class and check-in and check-out really efficient. The restaurant is excellent.

September 2011 : We stayed at this excellent small hotel, a Peak District gem, in late August and tried one of their new value rooms. It was beautifully refurbished and ticked all the boxes for comfort as well as for value. The restaurant is one of, if not THE best in the area – the chef being an unsung hero of cuisine. The local beef was particularly good.

November 2011 : My wife and I spent two nights at The George. I could not fault anything. The staff were excellent, the service superb and the food was the best we have eaten. We stayed in the four-poster room which was well decorated and the facilities excellent. I had booked it as a surprise for my wife’s birthday, and she wants to go back…
