The Peacock at Rowsley
The Peacock, owned by the Haddon Estate of nearby Haddon Hall, has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. Its 16 bedrooms are decorated in contemporary style, with thick curtains, pinpoint reading lights and lots of little extras.
Power showers are at just the right temperature. There are three dining rooms and a comfortable lounge, strewn with magazines and scrapbooks about the hall and the hotel. AA*** cuisine is international, making best use of local fish and game. There is also an intimate bar for that after dinner liqueur.
Location is excellent, being near Chatsworth and many beauties of Derbyshire. For walkers there is the start of the Pennine Way nearby. Other walks start at the hotel. The Peacock has long been known as a 'fishing hotel' and guests can experience some ten miles of the best trout fishing in the UK on the Wye and Derwent rivers.
The Haddon Estate's head river keeper is always available for advice. There is golf, shooting, riding and a fitness centre nearby.

Hotel reviews
December 2011 : Great country hotel & restaurant. We have stayed here as well as having had a number of lunches and evening meals. When staying, we did so over a weekend with breakfast and evening meal included. Not inexpensive but worth the money. Rooms full of character. Pre dinner drinks in the cosy bar followed by excellent meals. Service by management and staff as expected.

July 2011 : On arrival for our there-night stay, we were warmly welcomed, luggage taken and shown to our room. Good bathroom and shower with pleasant bedroom. The hotel is presided over by the omnipresent owner who made sure all guests had an excellent stay and that staff were kept on their toes. I had one of the best Dry Martinis ever.

June 2011 : Fabulous stay, warm, friendly, courteous staff, amazing staff. From the minute we arrived, we were taken care of by the lovely staff at the Peacock, who were friendly, helpful and yet unobtrusive. We were shown to our room and given a brief tour of the room and its facilities, told the time that dinner was served between and then invited to come down when we were ready.
