Castle House
Elegant Grade II Listed Georgian Townhouse situated near the cathedral in this historic city. All 16 rooms and suites are exceptionally comfortable, fresh and original without being minimalist or English country house.
Decor is bold, with tapestries, paintings and plenty of fresh flowers. Each bedroom has flat screen TV, CD player, wifi, fridge (contents can be pre-ordered) and welcoming sherry decanter. Bathrooms are of marble and wood. There are two ground floor suites (one adapted for disabled guests) leading out into the gardens, which overlook the tranquil castle moat, and a lift to other floors.
Award-winning chef Claire Nicholls creates memorable lunch and dinner menus, including a seven-course Taste of the Marches menu, in the 2 AA rosette restaurant and Castle Bistro, offering the best of contemporary British cuisine using local ingredients, some from the hotel owner’s farm.
The cathedral’s famous Mappa Mundi and Chained Library is within walking distance, as are the main shopping areas. The beautiful Wye Valley is all around.

Hotel reviews
June 2011 : Stayed here twice now. Both times very comfortable room with well stocked fridge and welcoming sherry decanter. Fabulous seven-course dinner, well presented and in reasonable timescale. Very disabled friendly hotel as the last owner was a wheelchair user.

November 2011 : What a lovely experience from beginning to end. This is how all hotels should be. The only downside for me was the car park which was small and very middy, and parking outside the hotel to set down/.pick up is impossible. However the staff are welcoming, the room comfortable (although not cheap), it was warm and clean. Shower was great, good quality/size TV and fresh flowers.

December 2011 : Have just come back from a night’s stay at this gem of a hotel… will definitely be going back, it’s so nice, can’t fault anything in it. We stayed at Townhouse 25, just yards from the hotel, in room 22, which is a suite with little breakfast room going out onto the garden which is perfect.
