Langar Hall Hotel
I always love my visits to Langar Hall. Although close to Nottingham, it is beautifully situated overlooking the Vale of Belvoir - a lovely country house, built in 1837, standing beside an early English church, with glorious views over the gardens and parkland. The Hall is the family home of Imogen Skirving, who father used to entertain famous cricketers of the 1930's.
Nowadays The Test Match Special team stay here during Trent Bridge test matches! The public rooms are delightful. The charming proprietor and her excellent team make every effort for their guests' happiness.
Together with her chef Gary Booth, Imogen, now aided by daughter Louise, works hard to produce excellent, reasonably priced menus of French and English food, using local produce, garden vegetables and herbs, Langar lamb, stilton & pork, game from the Belvoir estate and fish from Brixham.
This year we had delicious seared scallops, followed by guinea fowl, then gooseberry pudding. All the bedrooms are charming and uniquely furnished. A truly lovely spot, with a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

June 2011 : I’m often asked which is my favourite hotel in The Midlands and I have to say Langar Hall is pretty high up there. Pretty rooms, consistently good and often changing food and the charming company of Imogen Skirving.
