Romney Bay House Hotel
Built in the 1920s for the American Actress Hedda Hopper and designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the architect of Portmeirion fame, Romney Bay house is owned by Clinton and Lisa Lovell, who are most welcoming hosts. It is situated along a private road on a totally unspoiled stretch of coastline with spectacular views.
The drawing room overlooks the terrace with the sea beyond and the first floor look out room has a library and board games. In the grounds is a croquet lawn with two golf courses immediately behind the hotel. Clinton cooks a four-course set dinner (different every night) using the freshest local produce, complemented by an excellent wine list.
Cream teas are also a speciality, served on the terrace or in the dining room. The natural wildness of Romney Marsh and the proximity of the rolling Kent countryside and the historic Cinque Ports make this an ideal spot for a few days relaxation.

25/06/2011 (1 night stay): everything was charming, from the house itself, to the comfortable thoughtful ambience. the hosts were impeccable and the food was outstanding. this place is a gem and astonishing value. we wished we had been able to stay longer. we will definitely be back if we are staying in the area as there won't be anywhere else this good.

04/04/2011 (1 night stay): My third stay here and everything as good as ever. Clinton's cheese selection particularly good this time and it was better weather for walking on the beach.

07/09/2010 (7 night stay): This is avery special place! The house itself is magnificent both as a piece of 20th Century architecture and for its location. Lisa and Clinton are wonderfully attentive hosts who have created a sense of a rather opulent private world within the house. The rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean; the food is delicious; the atmosphere is one of traditional cosiness. Recommended without reservation.
