The Groes Inn
There has been an inn in this spot since 1573 when The Groes was on the main coach route between London and Holyhead/Ireland. The Groes Inn is a true family-run hostelry, whose décor reflects the personality of the hosts: from stone cats lounging in the fireplace to the inn’s collection of Victorian hats and shields. There is even a display of saucy Victorian postcards, but no jukeboxes or gaming machines!
Cuisine specialises in local delights: local game, Welsh black beef, Conwy crab, mussels and plaice and oysters from the sea around Anglesey. Bread is crusty and homemade. Puddings are another delight with a selection of homemade ice creams. There is an extensive wine list and you should try the new Groes Ale.
Bedrooms are smartly decorated, each one differently; some have four-posters, others balconies. All have magnificent views, either of the foothills of Snowdonia or of the Conwy valley. There is a private suite – The Gallery – for that special celebration.
The Groes Inn is the perfect spot for a short Welsh Break and is ideally placed for visiting Conwy Castle, Bodnant Gardens and Snowdonia. Recently the High Cabin, self-catering seclusion in the hills with a hot tub and No 14, a luxury cottage, also with a hot tub, in the heart of Conwy town, have been added to the accommodation.
Pets are welcome, there is a fee of £10 per night.

Hotel reviews
June 2010 : I stayed here one night in June and on the whole the experience was good… Room spacious on the ground floor with terrace. The hotel gave me a walking map which I probably misread as I got lost in a swampy area. Dinner was well served, considering the hotel was busy but I’m not personally a fan of ‘standard vegetables’ where diners off fish, duck or beef receive exactly the same tray of vegetables. Home made bread and ice creams were good.

September 2011 : The room was clean and comfortable and the shower was excellent. The staff were friendly, hardworking and pleasant. We had a ground floor room overlooking the car park but there was very little noise. The food in the restaurant was tasty, hot and well presented, tho’ the sticky toffee pudding was disappointing.
