Glen-yr-Afon House Hotel

One of the first things that the visitor will notice about the Glen-Yr-Afon is the friendliness and efficiency of directors Jan and Peter Clarke, their two young director-managers Alex Brown and Tim Strong and their "hands on" staff.

Only five minutes' walk from the pleasant market town of Usk, the hotel has an agreeable river walk opposite. This is a great base from which to explore South Wales, being only 15 minutes from the M50 and 10 minutes from the M4. Glen-Yr-Afon is an imposing and elegant Victorian house retaining many original features, yet sympathetically updated.

27 elegant bedrooms enjoy wonderfully large baths to luxuriate in. Additionally there is Stable Cottage in the grounds for a bit more privacy!

The air-conditioned Clarkes restaurant offers a range of new menu choices with an extensive wine list. Business people and wedding parties are well catered for with a function suite seating 140 whilst the charming Library is the venue for anniversaries, dinner parties and smaller functions for up to 20 people.

In 2010 the family acquired the nearby Three Salmons Hotel, which they are busy refurbishing.

Hotel reviews

January 2011 : An undiscovered gem of an hotel. The service is always friendly, extremely helpful and professional. The room and bathroom was a good size, very comfortable and warm. But the best bit was the food in the hotel’s restaurant, both breakfast and dinner.

September 2010 : Great Room (No. 8) with small balcony and beautiful view onto back. Very relaxing. Evening meal superb but make sure you have enough room to try the home made bread. Cooked breakfast is big and tasty. Service faultless.
