Abbots Brae
The Cowal peninsula is one of Scotland’s hidden treasures. It has picturesque freshwater lochs, stunning sea lochs, glorious views over the Firth of Clyde to Ayrshire and to distant Ben Lomond. Dunoon is the Western gateway to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Close to Dunoon is Scotland’s most magnificient Benmore Botanic Garden and a delightful small hotel called Abbots Brae. This ‘house on the hill’ was built by a Glasgow glass merchant. Fine trees were planted around the house but the view was left unimpaired. Colin and Christine Macpherson are your hosts. They look forward to welcoming you to this lovely part of Scotland and providing you with good old-fashioned Scottish hospitality!
The food is not to be missed - personally prepared and cooked using the best locally supplied ingredients - a true taste of Scotland.
Bathrooms are modern with a Victorian touch. Bedrooms are individually decorated with great style and comfort and most have wonderful views. All rooms are named after a local village or area and a guest folder relates the history of each place, encouraging guests to leave their ‘rooms with a view’ for a bit of local exploring.

Hotel reviews
September 2011 : Really friendly hotel that's beautifully situated. It isn't a high end, luxury hotel but that's not what you would expect anyway. We had one of the sea view rooms which was a great size and had everything we needed. Very clean with nice linens. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for somewhere to stay in the Cowal Peninsula to use as a base for exploring.
November 2011 : We stayed in the room which is also the Bridal Suite. It was absolutely beautiful! The views from the hotel are stunning and our one night stay was extremely comfortable. Abbot's Brae Hotel is ideally situated, friendly, warm and welcoming.
October 2011 : I highly recommend this hotel. I stayed here for a total of 9 weeks whilst on a diving course in Dunoon. The rooms were lovely food was expertly cooked and was such a good selection of it. Will certainly make a return trip sometime.
