Viewfield House

Viewfield House standing in extensive wooded grounds on the outskirts of Portree, overlooking Portree Bay and within easy walking distance of the centre, has been the home of the Macdonald family for over 200 years. The house has retained many of its Victorian features.

The 10 en suite bedrooms have been tastefully decorated, each in their own style, with several overlooking the bay.

There is plenty to do on Skye; boat trips, fishing, sailing, walking in the Cuillin hills, pony trekking and golf. Visit the otter haven at Kylerhea or visit Dunvegan Castle, home to the MacLeod clan since time immemorial. After an invigorating day your host Hugh Macdonald can offer a light supper, by prior arrangement, or can recommend several eateries in the nearby town of Portree.

There is one disabled room available.

Hotel reviews

October 2011 : The house is beautifully furnished without being pretentious (full of good books and family mementos),the service excellent and friendly, interesting choices of traditional fare on the menu if one chooses to dine in the handsome dinning room by candle light, and each bedroom...be it baronial Victorian or quiet Georgian....is well planned and comfortable. Hugh MacDonald has a wealth of knowledge about Skye, and is a thoughtful and considerate host. This is a very special place.
October 2011 : I had the most wonderful stay at Viewfield House. The house itself is lovely and there are nice walks available in the surroundings. The view over the water is gorgeous. The food was good, and afternoon tea by the fireplace was divine. All the staff were super friendly and the room was spotless. Will definitely go back!
October 2011 : We hated to leave Viewfield House, it was so beautiful there. We were lucky to be there during good weather, but wouldn't have minded just hanging out in one of the sitting rooms if we'd had rain.. Breakfast was lovely (and delicious) in the stately dining room. Staying at Viewfield House was definitely a highlight of our visit to Skye and the Highlands.
