Roman Camp Country House & Restaurant
The Roman Camp Country House & Restaurant lies on 20 acres of gardens by the river Teith. These include a large walled flower & herb garden and rolling lawns. The house, dating from 1625, was originally a hunting lodge for the Dukes of Perth. It was converted to a hotel in 1939 by the Brown family, who are still the hosts today.
Public rooms are exceptionally comfortable, with deep sofas and armchairs, roaring fires in winter and fresh flowers. In the heart of the house is the library with its rich oak panelling and adjoining secret chapel.
The AA 3 rosette restaurant is an inspiring oval room of elegant proportions, with soft modern classical décor.Cuisine is modern Scottish making use of freshest local produce. There are a number of smaller private dining rooms for special occasions or private parties. Each bedroom is individually furnished with rich fabrics and antiques, many being on the ground floor.
Weddings and small conferences can also be catered for. Callander is in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, in Rob Roy country yet conveniently situated for Stirling and just over an hour from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Hotel reviews
November 2011 : Just back from a lovely break in Callander staying at the Roman Camp Hotel. Loved this hotel with it's Idilic setting. Nestled right on the edge of the river in the heart of the village yet secluded in it's own beautiful gardens, complete with pet peacocks. This relitivly small hotel oozes character features. Like the grand fireplaces, turrets and a fabulous library with hidden secret room to mention a few. My friend and I had a wonderful time relaxing in cosy lounge/sitting rooms in front of blazing fires or exploring all the hotels nooks and crannies. We ate in the restaurant the first night which was included in the package (otherwise quite pricey). Expectations were very high and the Roman Camp did not disappoint. In fact all the food was absolutely beautiful. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you Roman Camp for a lovely stay.
November 2011 : We are just back from a 2 nite stay DBandB for my wifes birthday booked with groupon ,let me start as soon as we arrived we were made so welcome shown around then taken to our room.We stayed in the Barrie suite wonderful decor throughout large rooms i.e.lounge,bedroom,bathroom with lovely furniture superking size bed,2 large T.V. jacuzzi bath ect.Dinner was superb about 6 courses in the lovely oval dinning room(breakfast same room)service and food second to none,we found our stay so relaxing and will be booking again in the near future.
October 2011 : Like finding an oasis in the desert when you arrive at the Roman Camp Hotel. Quaint, quirky but different class. We occupied a suite (Barrie) with walk in shower, large bath tub incl. jacuzzi facility, giving us a wonderfully relaxing break, and having viewed a few other rooms, doubt if they would have made the stay any less enjoyable. Service can be a trifle slow (on occasions) but seems unimportant when you are in an environment where time appears endless. Food is of the highest quality; prepared beautifully and tasted wonderful. Library, Drawing room, conservatory were beautiful rooms to meet other guests and chill out with coffee or an evening malt, in front of roaring fires. Whilst not inexpensive it is an establishment not to be missed and I recommend booking the best room you can afford to maximise the experience.
