The Lynnfield Hotel & Restaurant
The Lynnfield is the only Visit Scotland 4-star property in Orkney and it certainly deserves this ranking.
The ten spacious bedrooms and suites (one on the ground floor) are well furnished and come with wide-screen TVs + Sky, WIFI and underfloor heating in the bathrooms.
The restaurant has the reputation of being one of the best on the Islands. Its ingredients are locally sourced with fish from local boats, beef and lamb from Orkney farms and local vegetables in season. 60 malt whiskies are stocked in the bar, including 20 variants of the excellent Highland Park, whose distillery is next to the hotel.
There is an exercise bike in the foyer to help work off those extra calories. With much to see in Orkney: Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar, the Italian Chapel and the natural beauty of its 18 inhabited islands, Lynnfield, near the centre of the capital, is your ideal base.

November 2011 : Lucky enough to experience one of their wine tasting dinners. Accommodation, service, staff and food were superb!!!!!
July 2011 : My third stay at the Lynnfield in Kirkwall - no point in going anywhere else as they always deliver.
July 2011 : We have never been disappointed at this hotel. Note that it is a little way out of town so not the best if you have no transport though there are buses nearby and a short hop by taxi if needed. Good for the airport.
