Ees Wyke Country House

Ees Wyke lies above the still waters of Esthwaite, overlooking the beautiful scenic forest and fells of one of the least spoiled parts of the Lake District.  Wordsworth described it as "

That sweet valley; when its paths, its shores and its brooks were like a dream of novelty".  It was once the holiday house of Beatrix Potter, who lived in the village.  Richard or Margaret Lee greet you personally, show you to your room, then later invite you to choose from the five-course menu with choices. This might start with fresh figs, goat's cheese and honey baked in puff pastry, be followed by a fish course, then perhaps roast duck leg stuffed with pork and damson served with thyme, ginger and honey sauce and finish with one of their celebrated desserts like strawberry and plum crumble with orange and pine nuts, and a selection of local cheeses.

This perfect food is served overlooking the wonderful view.  Most bedrooms have sweeping views of the surrounding hills as well as every modern convenicence.  Ees Wyke is recommended by the Good Hotel Guide and the Good Food Guide.  It is AA 5 star plus a breakfast award.  There is walking locally or you can visit Hill Top - the nearby former home of Beatrix Potter.  Either way you will not forget your stay.

Hotel reviews

2/10/2011 : I cant fault this delightful small hotel. Richard the owner is an experienced and subtle chef and we really enjoyed our meal both evenings especially as each menu was completly different. Stunning views from our room and attention to detail everywhere made it a memorable experience at a bargain price.
04/09/2011 : A wonderful location, beautiful house and excellent meals, what more could you want. We had a spacious private bathroom, but it was not en-suite, although only a few steps away from our room. The view from our room was across a lake to the hills opposite. We were only a 10 minute walk from the house where Beatrice Potter used to live.
20/05/2011 : We stayed for two nights in May over a weekend and could not have wished for anywhere nicer. The room was fantastic and quaint, very quiet and welcoming - with complimentary chocolates and sherry (!). Richard, the chef and manager, was very friendly and chatty, amazing quality food with splendid views across the hills and waters. We highly recommend this quality establishment with its attention to detail.
