Gilpin Hotel and Lake House
Meticulously run by the Cunliffe family, Gilpin Hotel is set in 20 tranquil acres of woodland, moor and country gardens. The family is assisted by a team of dedicated and long serving staff whose experience shows at every corner. Just 12 miles from the M6 and almost opposite Windermere Golf Course ('the miniature Gleneagles'), this four-star Relais & Chateaux hotel is at the heart of the Lake District's wealth of sightseeing, heritage and activities.
Seven rooms lead directly onto the gardens and a further six Garden Suites have hot tubs. 2010 saw the opening of Gilpin Lake House (a mile away) which sits on its own four-acre lake with boat-house, boat, cedarwood hot tub, indoor pool and 100 acres of private gardens and grounds. Accommodation consists of six stunning suites which exclusively share these facilities (the house can also be booked for exclusive use).
A chauffeur will take guests to the main hotel, where they can enjoy 3 AA Rosette cuisine. As in the main house, decor by Christine Cunliffe uses exquisite fabrics, wonderful upholstery, with delicious art on the walls and luxurious bathrooms.

10/12/2011 : We got a wonderful, friendly welcome on arrival and were looked after all through our stay by friendly staff who were always around to make sure we had all that we needed without being intrusive. The food was superb - a real gastronomic treat - and the room was uniquely beautiful, comfortable, spotlessly clean, with everything provided that we could possibly want.
08/12/2011 : We have returned from our third visit to Gilpin. Wonderful hotel. Warmest of welcomes from family and staff. Bedrooms are divine spotlessly clean.with wonderful bathrooms. Food on a par with Andrew Fairlie, at Gleneagles,a real foodies treat. One of the best Hotels we have stayed in. Staff excellent .Will return soon.
04/12/2011 : We thought it was fantastic. Relaxing, beautiful rooms and excellent food. The staff struck just the right balance, being friendly and helpful the attention to detail was impressive. Expensive but worth it. Just one note of caution my bill was incorrect but when I pointed this out it was corrected without question. Would return again without hesitation and look forward to it soon. Thank you all at Gilpin.
