The Old Rectory Norwich

Chris and Sally Entwistle are very much hands-on hosts, the kind of whom Signpost is proud and they make all their guests feel very much at home.

A short walk around the Yare close to the hotel is a good way to work up an appetite for the daily changing seasonal menu prepared by chef James Perry, whose cuisine has been awarded AA rosette.

Fresh produce is sourced from local suppliers and some of the summer vegetables, salad leaves and herbs come from the hotel's own garden. This charming Georgian property of just eight bedrooms plus one cottage in the grounds dates back to 1754 and is surrounded by mature gardens. It is situated in a residential conservation area only two miles from Norwich city centre.

Each room is individually styled, seven with baths and one with a shower room, but with fluffy bathrobes and many little extras. For meetings the Wellingtonia Room and The Conservatory look out onto the pool terrace and gardens. Whether on business or pleasure, you will be glad you made The Old Rectory your base. Not for nothing is it known as The best kept secret in Norwich.

Hotel reviews

June 2011 : Stayed a couple of times and enjoyed both immensely. The first time I had a large room overlooking the front lawns (but with only a shower) and the second time I was in a smaller but almost cosier room in the annexe with a good writing area and comfortable bed. Chris is a very welcoming host and the restaurant is always full of contented diners. Breakfast excellent too.

October 2010 : In a lifetime of staying in hotels, it is great to find one that fully lives up to expectations – tastefully furnished, excellent food and very friendly owners.

February 2011 : I have stayed at the Old Rectory many times. It is a haven of peaceful relaxation and personal care. It is always welcoming, comfortable and luxurious. You are treated as a valued friend, rather than as a paying customer. The food is extremely good and the service excellent.
