Plumber Manor Hotel
This imposing Jacobean manor house is set in idyllic countryside "far from the madding crowd". The Divelish stream weaves its way through delightful grounds, extensive lawns and fine old trees. Dating from the 17th century, the manor has been the home of the Prideaux-Brune family.
Since 1973 the careful management of Richard, Alison and Brian (in the kitchen) has led to the creation of a first class hotel and restaurant. Richard knows many of his regular diners personally and is always on hand for advice, both about current dishes on the ever changing menu and about what to see in this charming part of Dorset. When we dined there recently we had the excellent 'medley of seafood' starter, followed by succulent medallions de boeuf. Remember to leave room for one of the excellent Plumber puddings! The wine list is of the same standard, well-chosen and with ever changing freshness. There are six elegant bedrooms within the main house and a further ten in the courtyard and converted barn.
Plumber is welcoming, comfortable and has a charming atmosphere in which to relax and savour first class hospitality, cuisine and service.
To stay here is like staying with family. The beautiful gardens a constant pleasure; magnificent trees, herbaceous borders, topiary courtyard, a large, sloping lawn, croquet and tennis, a white bridge over Divelish Stream (good for Pooh Sticks), pig sculptures and lots of lovely chairs and benches tucked away to relax on.
Plumber Manor is a quintessential English country house hotel, well located for visiting Sherborne, Shaftesbury, Blandford Forum, Dorchester, Beaminster, Cerne Abbas Lulworth, Studland and the Jurassic Coast.

Hotel reviews
January 2012 : My husband and I were recommended to Plumber in December 2005 by an office colleague who said 'If I could go anywhere - Plumber would be my first choice.' From the moment we went through the front door into the hall, I almost felt that I had returned to my childhood home.
November 2011 : Just returned from a quick stay at Plumber Manor to celebrate mother's birthday. As ever, we had a wonderful time. From management to cleaners to waiting staff, everyone working at Plumber Manor makes it a very special. The food never fails and we can't wait for our next visit. Thank you all.
August 2011 : Richard and his family and numerous helpers made our most recent stay a pure delight. If you depend on your IPod, Sky Sports, computer games and all that is wrong with modern England this isn’t for you. If you enjoy courteous understated service and comfort, beautiful food, great wines and the great Dorset countryside you must stay at Plumber Manor....
