The Olive Branch and its newly acquired Georgian former farmhouse, Beech House, lies just two miles off the A1 between Grantham and Stamford in Britain's smallest county. The pub side serves Michelin starred food in a homely atmosphere of pews and sepia prints. Blackboard menus change daily as local suppliers bring in their latest day's produce. Rooms in Beech House are done up in Art Déco elegance - soft colours, flat screen TVs, DVD players and Roberts radios. Bathrooms are equally stylish, with roll top tubs, bathrobes and White Company toiletries. Burghley and Belvoir Castle are near at hand, as well as Rutland Water and the Georgian showpiece town of Stamford.
